USHL On-Ice Officials
The USHL not only is a development path for players and coaches, but has served as a training ground for the development of on-ice officials. Led by USHL Referee-in-Chief Scott Brand, more than 300 officials have advanced to professional, collegiate, and international levels of hockey.
A total of 11 former USHL on-ice officials have earned a contract to work in the National Hockey League—David Banfield, Chris Ciamaga, Harry Dumas, John Grandt, Mark Lemelin, Brian Mach, Bryan Pancich, Brian Pochmara, Chris Rooney, Ian Walsh, and Scott Zelkin.

Linesman Bryan Pancich signed a NHL contract in August 2009 becoming the first on-ice official to sign directly from the USHL to the NHL.

Former USHL referee Mark Lemelin is the most recent on-ice official to earn a NHL contract. He officiated in the USHL for three seasons from 2004-07.
