8. Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

4-3-0-0, Last Poll: 17

The RoughRiders compiled some impressive wins late in October, picking up victories over a pair of then-unbeaten teams and a then-one loss team. Two weeks ago, Cedar Rapids welcomed Lincoln and Central Illinois to The Stable at a time where both teams were unbeaten heading into the weekend and won both games. After then dropping a tough 3-2 decision to then-undefeated Team USA, the RoughRiders faced off with the U17s last Saturday and overcame a 3-0 first period deficit to win 4-3 hand Team USA their first loss of the season, and climb over .500 on the season. Marek Valach has quietly been one of the top scorers in the league through the first month of November, finishing October on a four-game point streak and just one point behind the USHL scoring leaders with nine points (3G, 6A). Vegas Golden Knights prospect Jiri Patera and rookie Blake Pietila have been consistent between the pipes, with both goaltenders earning two wins so far this year and sporting an identical .912 SV%. A strong offense and consistent goaltending is a solid recipe for success, and the RoughRiders appear to have both of those ingredients.

7. Green Bay Gamblers

5-3-1-0, Last Poll: 15

The Gamblers were one of the busiest teams in the USHL in October, playing nine games and coming out victorious in five of them, including a sweep last weekend at home over the Sioux Falls Stampede. Green Bay has seen a steady diet of veterans who have been leading the offensive charge. Trenton Bliss (3G, 5A), Josh Dunne (3G, 5A), Nolan Moyle (2G, 5A) and Matt Jennings (3G, 2A) are the team's top four scorers and were members of a team that fell one win short of qualifying for last season's Clark Cup Playoffs. Based on the start these players have shown, it appears that are trying to do everything they can to make sure that doesn't happen to the Gamblers again. Vegas Golden Knights prospect Maksim Zhukov has allowed one goal of fewer in half of his eight appearances so far this season, including pitching a 37-save shutout last Sunday against Sioux Falls. Look out for the Gamblers if that trend continues.
