USHL players recognized in advance of the 2013 NHL Draft

NHL Central Scouting released their Final Rankings of players eligible for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft and among the list are 50 players who spent time in the USHL this season.

Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Ian McCoshen leads all USHL skaters as he was listed at #24 on the rankings, followed by Team USA forward John Hayden who was one of the MVP’s at the 2013 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January.  Team USA forwards J.T. Compher and Michael McCarron are ranked #34 and #35 respectively.

Of the first 10 USHL players ranked, six of them are defensemen, including Michael Downing (#49) of the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Gustav Olofsson (#51) of the Green Bay Gamblers.

Making one of the biggest jumps from the Midterm Rankings released by NHL Central Scouting in January is Jake Guentzel of the Sioux City Musketeers.  He was listed at #114 in the Midterm Rankings but has moved up to #80 following a stellar second half of his rookie season in the USHL.

Among the goaltenders, Cal Petersen of the Waterloo Black Hawks is the top rated USHL netminder at #4, just two spots ahead of teammate Eamon McAdam at #6.  All four of the USHL goaltenders ranked are currently competing in the Clark Cup Playoffs, including Charlie Lindgren (#19) of the Sioux Falls Stampede and Sean Romeo (#24) of the Youngstown Phantoms.

At least one player from 15 of the 16 USHL Member Clubs is listed on the Final Rankings by NHL Central Scouting.

In addition, eight players who are alumni of the USHL appeared on the rankings, most notably former Team USA defenseman Seth Jones who is #1 overall among the North American skaters.

The 2013 NHL Draft will take place on June 30 at the Prudential Center in Newark, Jersey - home of the New Jersey Devils.
