17th consecutive season that USHL player wins the award

USA Hockey today announced that Waterloo Black Hawks forward Taylor Cammarata has been named the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year, presented to the top American-born player in junior hockey this season.

The award adds to a list of honors that Cammarata has racked up this season.  He recently was named both the USHL Player of the Year and USHL Forward of the Year to go along with All-USHL First Team honors.  Cammarata, who celebrated his 18th birthday this month, led the USHL in scoring this season with 93 points (38g, 55a) in 59 regular season games.  It is the second most points scored by a USHL player since the League was designated Tier 1 by USA Hockey in 2002.

His 38 goals led the USHL and were the third highest total by a player in the Tier 1 era.  Not only was he the top goal scorer, he was the most accurate as his .211 shooting percentage was the best in the League.  The native of Plymouth, Minnesota produced 29 multi-point games, including a six-point effort (2g, 4a) on October 28th to establish a USHL season high.

Cammarata compiled a plus-39 rating which was the fourth highest in the USHL and the best plus/minus by a Black Hawks player in the Tier 1 era.  He posted a career high plus-five rating during his six-point night.

He finishes his USHL career with 162 points (65g, 97a) in 116 regular season games and at the top of the Waterloo Black Hawks record books, leading in assists, second in points, and fifth in goals.  He is eligible for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft and will continue his hockey career next season at the University of Minnesota.

It is the 17th consecutive season that a USHL player has earned the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year Award.  Cammarata is the third member of the Waterloo Black Hawks to receive the honor, joining Joe Pavelski (2003-04) and Jason Blake (1993-94).  He will be officially presented the award on June 5th at the USA Hockey Annual Congress in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
