Patrick Wey, Waterloo's top-scoring defenseman, has been added to the roster of the East Division for the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game.
The United States Hockey League has announced that Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Patrick Wey has been added to the roster for the East Division All-Star team that will play in the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game, to be held on Wednesday, February 4 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Wey replaces Philip Samuelsson of the Chicago Steel. Samuelsson has been chosen to play for Team USA at the Four Nations tournament, which will be taking place at the same time as the USHL event.
"It is a great opportunity for Philip to represent the U.S. team. We are excited that the U.S. National Program considered him," said Chicago Head Coach Steve Poapst. "Philip has improved tremendously and he is very deserving of this opportunity."
The festivities in Sioux Falls will kick off with the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game Banquet, to be held on Tuesday, February 3. Olympic gymnast and gold medalist Shawn Johnson will be the keynote speaker. There will also be a silent auction featuring sports and entertainment memorabilia. Proceeds from the All-Star dinner silent auction will benefit the local Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Stampede Foundation for Kids.
Tickets for the All-Star Dinner are $50 per person ($500 for a table of 10) for the full program and $20 per person for families and individuals that would just like to hear Shawn Johnson speak and get her autograph. On the night of the game, the Stanley Cup will make its first-ever appearance in Sioux Falls at the Sioux Falls Arena. Fans can view hockey's Holy Grail and have their pictures taken with it during the game.
