The Sioux Falls Stampede announced that forward Michael Voran has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Notre Dame following his USHL career.
Voran leads the Stampede in scoring with 37 points (17g, 30a) while playing in all 38 games for the team. His totals rank sixth overall in League scoring. The 19-year-old is riding a three-game point streak (1g, 5a) heading into this weekend's action. Earlier this season, he posted a seven-game point streak scoring 14 points (7g, 7a) during that span. Voran is a native of Livonia, Michigan and is playing in his first USHL season. He was also named to the participate in the 2010 USHL All-Star Game and recorded an assist in the contest.
Eleven other current USHL players are also committed to attend Notre Dame following their USHL careers; Jeff Costello (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Kevin Lind (Chicago Steel), T.J. Tynan (Des Moines Buccaneers), Anders Lee (Green Bay Gamblers), David Gerths (Green Bay Gamblers), Garrett Peterson (Lincoln Stars), Stephen Johns (Team USA), Robbie Russo (Team USA), Bryan Rust (Team USA), Andy Ryan (Team USA), and Jarred Tinordi (Team USA). In addition, defenseman Joe Lavin recently enrolled at Notre Dame after spending the first half of the season with the Omaha Lancers.
The University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish are members of the CCHA and have 13 former USHL players on their roster this season; Joe Lavin (Omaha Lancers), Kevin Deeth (Green Bay Gamblers), Ryan Guentzel (Sioux Falls Stampede), Mike Johnson (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Dan Kissel (Chicago Steel), Nick Larson (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Lawson (Tri-City Storm), Billy Maday (Waterloo Black Hawks), Christiaan Minella (Sioux City Musketeers), Kevin Nugent (Tri-City Storm), Calle Ridderwall (Tri-City Storm), Ben Ryan (Des Moines Buccaneers), and Ryan Thang (Omaha Lancers).
