The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Eric Knodel to a one-year NHL entry-level contract that begins with the 2014-15 season.

Knodel spent the 2009-10 season in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers and recorded 20 points (3g, 17a) over 50 regular season games.  His first USHL goal came in his sixth game and was the game-winner for the Bucs in their 3-2 victory against the Lincoln Stars on October 24th, 2009.  The defenseman came to the USHL after being selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.

The West Chester, Pennsylvania native went on to play collegiate hockey at the University of New Hampshire where he accumulated 61 points (20g, 41a) in 116 career games at the school.  Standing at 6-6 and weighing 225 pounds, he was the captain for the Wildcats this season and put up 28 points (7g, 21a) in 41 games on the way to being named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star.

Knodel, 23, will now join the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs, for the remainder of this season.
