The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Christian Folin to a two-year NHL entry-level contract and will join the team for the remainder of the season.

Folin spent part of the 2010-11 season in the USHL with the Fargo Force and recorded four points (2g, 2a) over 12 games.  He netted his first USHL goal on November 12th, 2010 in a 3-2 loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, and then scored his second goal two weeks later in a 6-2 win over the Lincoln Stars.  The Gothenburg, Sweden was not drafted into the USHL, but added to the Force roster prior to the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

The 23-year-old recently completed his second season at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and was the most highly-sought free agent in college hockey this spring.  He recorded 20 points (4g, 16a), including three game-winning goals, in 41 games this season for the River Hawks and helped them win the Hockey East tournament championship.  Folin put up 21 points (6g, 15a) in 38 games last year as a freshman at UMass-Lowell, ranking sixth in scoring among Hockey East defensemen.

Folin is joining the Wild for the remainder of the year and could potentially make his NHL debut before the regular season ends.  His brother, Niklas Folin, is currently playing in the USHL for the Omaha Lancers.
