Stars Forward Commits to Brown University

Lincoln Stars forward Biagio Lerario has committed to play college hockey at Brown University following his USHL career.

Lincoln Stars forward Biagio Lerario has committed to play college hockey at Brown University following his USHL career.

Lerario is currently tied for the team lead with 34 points (20g, 14a) while appearing in all but one of the 58 games for the Stars this season.  The 19-year-old opened the season by scoring three goals over the first two games for the Stars, and recently he has scored three goals over his last four games.  Lerario leads the team with 20 goals and is one of 31 players in the USHL this season to have reached the 20-goal mark. 

The forward first broke into the USHL during the 2012-13 season with the Chicago Steel, the same team that selected him in Phase One of the 2011 USHL Draft.  He began last season with the Steel before the Stars acquired him midway through the year.  Over his USHL career, he has tallied 50 points (29g, 21a) and 193 penalty minutes in 124 games. 

Lerario is a native of Addison, Illinois and played youth hockey for both the Chicago Mission and Team Illinois programs.

Seven other players that have competed in the USHL are committed to play college hockey at Brown University; Max Gottlieb (Bloomington Thunder), Michael Maloney (Chicago Steel), Anea Ferrario (Des Moines Buccaneers), Trey Dodd (Dubuque Fighting Saints), August von Ungern-Sternberg (Lincoln Stars), Eric Shaw (Madison Capitols), and Tom Marchin (Muskegon Lumberjacks).

Brown University is an Ivy League school located in Providence, Rhode Island and plays in the ECAC.  A total of nine USHL alumni were on the Brown Bears roster this season; Ryan Jacobson (Sioux Falls Stampede), Kyle Quick (Lincoln Stars), Nick Lappin (Tri-City Storm), Mark Naclerio (Waterloo Black Hawks), Aleksi Rossi (Waterloo Black Hawks), Davey Middleton (Cedar Rapids/Tri-City), Tim Lappin (Waterloo/Tri-City), Dane Cooper (Waterloo/Sioux City), and Josh McArdle (Muskegon/Tri-City).

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 13th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2014-15.  A record 35 players were chosen in the 2014 NHL Draft and more than 300 players on team rosters this season are committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
