Director of Hockey Operations

 

Responsible for management of league operations, including dissemination of rules and regulations related to roster management, affiliate and injured reserve lists, transactions, and international transfers.  Direct oversight responsibilities include acting as league liaison to GMs, coaches and hockey staff personnel; management of GM Meetings and Competition Committee, engagement with outside governing organizations, select vendor partners, player agent/advisors and more. Rules & Regulations

  • Complete knowledge of IIHF, USA Hockey and USHL rules, including dissemination and orientation of policies and procedures for team personnel.
  • Oversight of all compliance documents, including Player Code of Conduct. Manage background checks and completion of SafeSport program as required.
  • Prepare recommendations for disciplinary actions for players, coaches and organizations as necessary.
  • Serve as league office liaison to USA Hockey Director of Officiating, USHL Competition Committee, USHL General Managers and coaching staffs.

 

Rosters & Player Transactions

  • Oversight of league rosters, affiliate lists, RinkNet Central Registry and compliance with stated rules and regulations.
  • Oversight and management of all player transactions, including complete knowledge of all relevant rules and regulations, including USA Hockey and IIHF player transfer rules as necessary to advise teams and approve transactions.
  • Oversight and management of all roster processing and transactions, including internal league trades, international transfers and interleague transfers.
  • Oversight and approval of all affiliate player requests to USAH and maintain record of affiliate player games played.
  • Ensure that all league transaction reports are compiled and distributed on a timely and accurate basis, including active player lists, injury lists, emergency goalies, etc.
  • Foster Ladder of Development through interleague partnerships (e.g. NAHL)

 

Game Day Operations & Player Safety

  • In cooperation with Member Clubs, oversight and management of league regulations regarding game day operations, including posting of line-ups, official scoring, game clock and off-ice officials.
  • Oversee monitoring of all league games, including video and voiceovers of all dangerous minor penalties, major penalties and any other plays necessary that may require review by the Disciplinary Committee.
  • Serve as senior league liaison to the Disciplinary Committee, including participation in phone conferences, hearings and input on potential supplementary discipline.
  • Manage and update league records, including all accumulated dangerous penalties, fighting, suspensions, etc.
  • Manage and update league’s Injury Surveillance Program, including communication with Member Clubs on proper procedures for recording and tracking injury status.
  • Produce league suspension videos using iMovie.

 

League Statistics

  • Complete knowledge and understanding of the statistics program used for the league website, mobile platforms, roster pages, game stats, player records, etc.
  • Manage oversight of team scorekeepers and prepare advice on proper usage, game management and best practices.
  • Maintain league statistical partnership (e.g. HockeyTech) for all things related to team rosters, player statistics, scoring and transactions.
  • In conjunction with USHL Communications department, maintain and manage hockey related data for USHL website.

 

Event Management

  • Operational oversight for planning and execution of USHL events, including GM Meetings, Fall Classic, NHL Top Prospects and other. This will include but not be limited to:
    • Logistics management.
    • Outreach and planning with USHL coaching and hockey operations staffs.
    • Partner engagement (e.g. HockeyTech).
    • Vendor engagement (e.g. Hotels, Ground Transport, F&B, etc.)
    • Coordination with partners for ancillary activities (e.g. on-ice testing)
    • Coordination and communication with USHL member clubs as necessary.
    • Coordination as necessary with USHL Communications Director.
  • Preparation of RFP’s (Requests For Proposals) for USHL Events
  • Provide operational assistance as necessary to Director of Player Development for planning and execution of USHL Development Series events, including Combines, and USHL Fall Classic youth tournament. This will include but not be limited to,
    • Game Scheduling
    • Design and Ordering of required game wear and apparel
    • Coordination with partners for ancillary activities (e.g. on-ice testing)
    • Building and maintaining the registration system through SportsEngine
    • Scheduling of part-time support staff at events
    • Full knowledge of event registration process

 

Business Operations

  • Operational oversight of USHL licensed product program, to include dissemination of information to member clubs, managing relationships with licensees and assisting in production of marketing materials for USHL licensed products (E-Catalog) and contractual agreements.
  • Management of league vendor partners (e.g. CCM Hockey)
  • Assist with ordering and sales of USHL branded merchandise at league events
  • Assist in preparation of RFPs for league inventory involving licensees

 

Intellectual Properties

  • Operational oversight of USHL intellectual properties, including “Little USHL”, “SKATE” and others, to include but not be limited to the following:
    • League liaison with Partners (e.g. USA Hockey, NHL, others)
    • Coordination and communication with Member Clubs
    • Coordination and communication with vendor partners (e.g. CCM)
