77 current USHL players named to the NHL Central Scouting List.

NHL Central Scouting released their updated Players to Watch list this morning for the 2017 NHL Draft. The annual list identifies players using the following criteria:

  • A Rating – Indicates a 1st round candidate
  • B Rating – Indicates a 2nd/3rd round candidate
  • C Rating – Indicates a 4th/5th/6th round candidate
  • LV (Limited Viewing) – Injured players who have not had sufficient viewings to be categorized

77 players on USHL rosters this season were named to the list, an increase of nine players from October’s Preliminary Players to Watch List. The 77 players is tied for the most amount of prospects listed for any junior league in the world. 63 of the 77 players have NCAA Division I college commitments. In addition, nine USHL alumni, eight of whom are playing college hockey, were named to the November list. The news comes after the 2016 NHL Draft in which the USHL had 30 or more players selected for the fourth consecutive NHL Draft.

The USHL will feature top NHL Draft-eligible talent in the annual USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Sioux Falls, SD on January 10, 2017.

The Green Bay Gamblers led all USHL teams with two players listed as A-rated prospects (Casey Mittelstadt and Maksim Zhukov). Zhukov was one of three goaltenders listed as an A-rated prospect in the world. The USHL leads all junior leagues with 12 goaltenders named to the November list. The Sioux City Musketeers (Eeli Tolvanen), Team USA (Grant Mishmash) and Waterloo Black Hawks (Shane Bowers) also featured A-rated players.

15 USHL teams featured multiple players on NHL Central Scouting’s list: Team USA (18), Green Bay Gamblers (8), Muskegon Lumberjacks (6), Fargo Force (5), Sioux City Musketeers (5), Tri-City Storm (5), Chicago Steel (4), Sioux Falls Stampede (4), Waterloo Black Hawks (4), Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (3), Des Moines Buccaneers (3), Lincoln Stars (3), Madison Capitols (3), Dubuque Fighting Saints (2), Youngstown Phantoms (2), Bloomington Thunder (1), and Omaha Lancers (1).
