Phantoms, Lumberjacks pick up wins in Monday matinees.

BLOOMINGTON THUNDER [1] at YOUNGSTOWN PHANTOMS [4]

 

Youngstown picked up a 4-1 home victory over the Bloomington Thunder on Monday and are now 7-2-0-1 in their last 10 games. The Phantoms jumped out to a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play thanks to goals from Austin Pooley and Eric EspositoChase Gresock scored on the power play for the only goal of the middle frame, and it was a 3-0 Youngstown advantage heading into the third period. Wyatt Kalynuk talled his fourth of the season to extend his point streak to extend his point streak to five games and cut the lead to 3-1, but Pooley scored his second goal of the game on an empty-netter to seal the victory. Alec Mahalak dished out two assists, and Ivan Kulbakov stopped 27 of the 28 Bloomington shots he faced to move to 15-7-0-2 on the season. He currently sports a 1.86 GAA (2nd in USHL) and .920 SV% (6th in USHL).

MUSKEGON LUMBERJACKS [3] at TEAM USA (U17) [0]

 

With their 3-0 shutout of Team USA, Muskegon kept pace with Youngstown and are tied with the Phantoms for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Lumberjacks scored two goals in 1:55 late in the first period, courtesy of Scooter Brickey and Collin Adams, to take a 2-0 lead into the middle frame. Jachym Kondelik tallied his fourth of the season on the power play to extend the lead to 3-0, and the Lumberjacks were able to hang onto that lead for the remainder of the game. Adam Brizgala earned his ninth win of the season and first shutout of his USHL career by stopping all 22 shots he faced.
