50 USHL players and 12 alumni were listed on the January NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings.

NHL Central Scouting released its Midterm Rankings of players eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft, and among the North American lists are 50 players that have competed in the USHL this season. In addition, 12 USHL alumni were named in the rankings. Of the 50 current players listed, 43 are committed to play college hockey.

The Midterm Rankings include players from all leagues and levels across North America and are listed with a numerical ranking based on NHL Central Scouting evaluations.

Four of the five top goaltenders in the North American rankings have USHL experience, including top goaltender Keith Petruzzelli. The Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender was named USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game MVP for Team East last week after stopping all 21 shots he faced in 30 minutes of play. All four goaltenders that played in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game are ranked among the top-six North American goaltenders: Petruzzelli (1st), Cayden Primeau (4th), Maksim Zhukov (5th) and Dayton Rasmussen (6th).

Top USHL skaters include Casey Mittelstadt (5th), Eeli Tolvanen (7th) and Shane Bowers (13th). Mittelstadt is currently playing with Eden Prairie High School and is expected to rejoin the Green Bay Gamblers after the Minnesota State High School League Ice Hockey Championship. Tolvanen and Bowers both rank in the top-25 in USHL scoring.

Including goaltenders, 19 players with USHL experience appear in the top-50 North American rankings. 16 of the 17 USHL teams have at least one player listed. The 50 players with USHL experience are up from last year’s 43 listed in the Midterm Rankings.

12 total alumni were listed on the North American lists including 2016 USHL Defenseman of the Year Jack Ahcan. The St. Cloud State University defenseman recently won a gold medal with Team USA at the World Junior Championship. Other notable alumni include Boston University’s Jake Oettinger, St. Cloud State University’s Ryan Poehling, Penn State University’s Denis Smirnov, and 2016 Clark Cup champion and current Miami University forward Carson Meyer.
