Youngstown Phantoms forward Coale Norris has committed to play college hockey at Ferris State University following his time in the USHL.

“I’m really honored to have committed to coach (Bob) Daniels and Ferris State to play my college hockey,” said Norris.  “It’s always been a dream to play Division I hockey and to have it become a reality is pretty surreal."

"I chose Ferris because of its great hockey history and excellent coaching traditions. I’m excited to be a Bulldog and look forward to the opportunity to play close to home so my family and friends can watch our games.”

A native of Oxford, MI, Norris is in his first season with the Phantoms. In 41 games, he has tallied six goals and six assists.

“Coale Norris is a great success story,” said Phantoms general manager Jason Koehler.  “He has progressed every year through AA, to AAA, the NAHL, and then to the USHL, which is the type of progression you like to see in a player who is dedicated to the game.”

“Coale has had a great impact on our club and has been a positive influence from day one.  We are proud of him and look forward to a successful college hockey career and educational experience at Ferris State."

Norris will be joining the Bulldogs along with fellow Phantoms forward Marshall Moise. Prior to his time in Youngstown, Norris played for the Amarillo Bulls (NAHL), Springfield Jr. Blues (NAHL) and Oakland Jr. Grizzlies (T1EHL).

With his announcement, the Phantoms have 21 Division I college commits on their roster.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
