Storylines

  • This matchup features the last two teams that have lost in the Clark Cup Final. Muskegon fell to Sioux Falls in 2015, while Tri-City swept Dubuque to win the 2016 Clark Cup.
  • Dubuque has made the playoffs for the seventh straight season, the longest active streak in USHL history. No other team in the 2017 Clark Cup Playoffs has made the postseason more than two years in a row.
  • Dubuque is looking for their third Clark Cup title in the last seven years. The Fighting Saints previously won the Clark Cup in 2011 and 2013. Muskegon is trying for their first championship in club history.
  • This is a matchup filled with star power. Dubuque is led by USHL scoring leader Zach Solow and Colin Theisen, who finished tied for third in regular season scoring. New York Islanders prospect Collin Adams will lead the way for Muskegon, who will be without leading rookie Andrei Svechnikov who has joined Russia for the U18 World Championships.
  • Two of the highest-scoring defenseman in the USHL will face off in this series. Arizona Coyotes prospect Patrick Kudla and Muskegon captain Bo Hanson lead their respective teams in scoring among defensemen and are tied for third among all USHL blueliners with 38 points each.
  • Goaltending will be a big key in this series as well. Jaxon Castor was a member of the Fighting Saints squad that advanced to the Clark Cup Final last season, and he will be looking to lead his team back this postseason. On the other side, Keith Petruzzelli certainly has the pedigree to lead Muskegon to a deep playoff run. The Quinnipiac commit was billed as the #1 goaltender by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2017 NHL Draft.
  • Staying out of the penalty box might be the biggest factor in determining who advances in this series. Dubuque and Muskegon are the top two teams in the Clark Cup Playoffs on the man advantage.
