The USHL published its 2017-18 Media Guide and Record Book with historical reference back to the 1979-80 season.

The United States Hockey League published its 2017-18 USHL Media Guide after more than two and a half years of efforts to collect boxscores, statistics, awards and other historical information dating back to the league’s first season as a junior-only league in 1979-80. In 2015, the USHL organized the USHL Historical Committee, led by USHL Director of Communications Aaron Westendorf. The committee was comprised of the following members: Jack Barzee, Andre Beaulieu, Gino Gasparini, Bob Gernander, Roger Godin, Tim Harwood, Butch Johnson, Craig Sarner, Dave Siciliano, Dave Tyler, Lou Vairo and Murray Williamson. The committee donated and organized old media guides, press clippings, USHL newsletters and insight into the league’s history.

Over the course of the next two years, the league office input end-of-season stats dating back to 1979-80 into a sortable format, allowing for all-time statistical rankings. Led by USHL Communications Coordinator Kevin Meyers, the statistics were cross-referenced for verification and organized into a singular format. Key contributors for statistical sources included HockeyTech, Pointstreak, Howe Stats, USHL Media Guides and microfilm from the Sioux City Journal and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

All 17 USHL member clubs contributed team information and data. The project would not be possible without the diligent work of former USHL media employees, which include Jeff Cooke, John Cowley, James D’Amanda, Everett Fitzhugh, Jon Garver, Andrew Leapaldt, Steve McCall, Brian McDonough, Erik Riha, Brian Sunde and Brian Werger.

The USHL is still accepting ongoing donations of historical information and memorabilia. If you would like to arrange a donation, please submit a letter of inquiry to web@ushl.com.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 16th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2017-18. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in five consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
