Fargo Force defenseman Jacob Nordqvist has committed to play college hockey at Lake Superior State University at the end of his junior hockey career.

“What stood out to me about Lake Superior State was the coaching staff,” Nordqvist said. “It feels like a place where I can develop as a hockey player and the campus was a great fit for me as well. I can’t wait to be a Laker!”

Nordqvist is currently playing his first season of hockey in North America with the Force after playing the previous four seasons for Frölunda HC in Sweden. The Gothenburg, Sweden native has scored five points (2G, 3A) in 16 games for Fargo since being added to the roster on October 27. In two seasons with Frölunda in the Swedish SuperElit, Nordqvist tallied 30 points (5G, 25A) in 82 games.

With his announcment, Nordqvist becomes the 24th player to have played for the Force this season that is committed to play college hockey.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 16th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2017-18. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in five consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
