Green Bay is the top Eastern Conference team in the January Power Rankings, perhaps telling of the Western Conference’s hot start. The Gamblers ascension into first in the Eastern Conference happen quietly, over the course of international play making headlines. However, the six-game point streak and 7-2-0-1 record in their last 10 games has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the conference. Josh Dunne led the USHL with seven goals scored during the month of December, as the Clarkson commit continues to build upon his career year. Dunne’s 10 goals tie a career-best, while his 22 points in 27 games has already surpassed last year’s total of 18 points. Overall, Trenton Bliss has led the Gamblers offensively this season with 25 points in 27 games. The Appleton, WI native recently announced his commitment to Michigan Tech after dishing out two assists in a 4-1 win over in-state rival Madison Capitols. Veteran forward Nolan Moyle and Borck Caufield are having sneaky good season as well in dairy land. Vegas Golden Knights prospect Maksim Zhukov found his rhythm in December going 5-2-0-1. Zhukov allowed two goals or fewer in six of his eight starts.

Black Hawks forward Jackson Cates ended his 2017 with a four-game point streak, including three multi-point games, en route to being named USHL Forward of the Week. Cates leads Waterloo offensively, but it wasn’t just Cates enjoying a hot December. Ben Copeland finished the month with 11 points, second amongst USHL players, and was named to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game earlier this month. Jack Drury also had a productive December, scoring points in every game extending his point streak to eight games, now dating back prior to Thanksgiving. Goaltender Matej Tomek joined Cates in the weekly awards after finishing December on a three-game point streak including a 31-save shutout. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect is now 7-4-1-1 on the season with a 2.37 GAA. Tomek has been sharing starts with Minnesota commit Jared Moe, who is 8-5-0-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .923 SV%. Moe will be looking to gain momentum off of his New Year’s Eve 31-save win after struggling a bit throughout December.
