09/24/2019, 11:45am CDT

The United States Hockey League (USHL) and its Member Clubs announced Tuesday the 23-man protected lists for all 16 USHL teams for the 2019-20 season, which begins Thursday at the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pen.

The 23-man protected lists must adhere to regular season roster regulations, which include:

  • Teams must carry a minimum of three U18 players (2002 or 2003 birth years) on their active roster at all times.
  • Teams must carry at least two goaltenders on their active roster at all times.
  • Teams cannot carry more than five 20-year olds on their active roster at a time, which must be reduced to four by the third weekend of the regular season. Goalies do not count toward the 20-year old player limit.
  • Teams cannot carry more than four import players on their roster at one time.
  • A team is permitted to carry up to two Canadian import skaters (non-goaltenders) that will not count towards the aforementioned four import player limit.
  • Any import goaltender, including a Canadian goaltender, will count as two players toward the four-import player limit.

Beginning September 24 at 12 p.m. CT, all roster moves will count towards the annual roster move limit.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 18th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2019-20. The USHL had 55 players selected at the 2019 NHL Draft, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
