The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday the Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 1 of the 2019-20 season. Madison Capitols forward Carson Bantle, USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) defenseman Daniel Laatsch and Fargo Force goalie Cole Brady all earned the first weekly honors of their career. Bantle registered six points in three games while Laatsch had all three of his points this week come in one game and Brady recorded a shutout in his first career USHL game. The USHL is America's only Tier I junior hockey league and continues to lead the world in the advancement of Division I college hockey athletes.

Bantle registered six points (3-3-6) in three games in the opening weekend of the 2019-20 USHL season. The Michigan Tech University commit scored a goal in all three games and posted his second career three-point night (1-2-3) in a wild 6-5 overtime win over the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday night. Bantle led the charge for the Capitols, who erased a three-goal deficit after 20 minutes with a pair of goals in each of the second and third periods. Bantle assisted on a goal from Stepan Pokorny 2:06 into the third period to tie the game 4-4 and then forced overtime with an unassisted goal of his own with 55 seconds to play in regulation.

Last season, Bantle recorded 20 points (10-10-20) while appearing in all 62 games for Madison. His two multi-point performances in the opening weekend doubled his total from all of last season (1) and his three-game point streak is currently tied for the second-longest in his USHL career.

Defenseman - Daniel Laatsch (USA Hockey NTDP)

Laatsch was named Defenseman of the Week with a three-point game (1-2-3) in a season-opening 5-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers. The University of Wisconsin commit opened the scoring for the NTDP in the 2019-20 season with a goal 7:14 into the first period of play. He then went on to assist on two of the three NTDP goals in the second period and finished the game with a +4 rating.

The three-point game tripled his point total from last season (0-1-1) in 26 games with the U17 squad. Laatsch follows in line with former NTDP defensemen Cam York (2) and Domenick Fensore who picked up Defenseman of the Week honors last season.

Goalie - Cole Brady (Fargo Force)

Brady earned Goalie of the Week honors after turning aside 54 of the 57 shots he saw this weekend, including a 30-save shutout against the Lincoln Stars in his USHL debut on September 26. The New Jersey Devils prospect (2019, Round 5, #127) is the first USHL goalie to record a shutout in his debut since James Durham turned aside 32 shots on January 20, 2018. Green Bay's Nicholas Grabko also recorded a shutout in his USHL debut three days after Brady.

Brady, an Arizona State University commit, held opponents scoreless for the first 88:08 of his career, the longest streak since Jared Moe (Waterloo Black Hawks) went 102:27 into his career before allowing a goal in the 2017-18 season. Brady was saddled with an overtime loss in his second career start despite turning aside 24 of the 27 shots he saw from the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 18th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2019-20. The USHL had 55 players selected at the 2019 NHL Draft, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
