The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday the Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 2 of the 2019-20 season. This is the second time in his career that Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Jack Millar has been named USHL Defenseman of the Week, while Des Moines Buccaneers forward Alex Laferriere and Sioux City Musketeers goaltender Ethan Haider earned the first weekly honors of their career. Millar registered four points and a +7 rating in two games while Laferriere picked up the first hat trick of the USHL season and Haider turned aside all but one shot in an exciting overtime win. The USHL is America's only Tier I junior hockey league and continues to lead the world in the advancement of Division I college hockey athletes.

After being held off the scoresheet in the first two games of the regular season, Alex Laferriere made his presence known Saturday night - picking up four points (3-1-4) in a 6-1 win over the Fargo Force. The Harvard University commit broke the game open early in the first period of the Buccaneers home opener after a great setup pass from linemate Nicklas Andrews. Laferriere picked up his second goal later in the first after sashaying past a defenseman  and finished off the hat trick in the second period after a misplay by the Fargo netminder. The Chatham, N.J. native is in his first full USHL season after appearing in 12 games for Des Moines last season.  On Monday, Laferriere was listed among 86 USHL players on the NHL Central Scouting 2019-20 Preliminary Players to Watch List as a C-rated skater, projecting a 4th/5th/6th round selection.

Millar, who was previously named USHL Defenseman of the Week on March 11 last season, earned the honor in Week 2 after combining for four points (1-3-4) and an impressive +7 rating in two games this weekend. The Colorado College commit picked up three points (1-2-3) in an 8-4 Friday night win over USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP). It was the second three-point night of Millar's USHL career (February 27, 2019 at Green Bay Gamblers) and marked goals in back-to-back games for the first time in 67 USHL regular season contests. Millar went on to pick up another assist in Saturday's win over the NTDP, as well as a +4 rating to add to Friday night's +3.

Sioux City picked up a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory Saturday night largely in part to Musketeers netminder Ethan Haider's 27-save performance. The Nashville Predators prospect (2019, Rd. 4, #148) made a trio of saves in the extra frame before his offense finished off  the game with just four seconds remaining. Haider, a Clarkson College commit, is now 1-2-0-0 on the season with a .910 save percentage and 2.62 goals against average and his 184 minutes played this season is fourth most in the USHL. Haider is the first Musketeer to take home Goalie of the Week since Ben Kraws (Miami University) did so in Week 26 last season.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 18th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2019-20. The USHL had 55 players selected at the 2019 NHL Draft, and more than 800 alumni are currently on NCAA Division I rosters, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
