The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday the Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 6 of the 2019-20 season. This is the first weekly honor for Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Danil Gushchin as well as Des Moines Buccaneers defenseman Noah Ellis and goaltender Christian Stoever. Gushchin single-handedly won the game for his team Friday night, scoring all four of his team's goals - including the game-winning goal which landed him on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays. Ellis picked up both game-winning goals for his team last weekend while Stoever backstopped a magnificent 50-save win for the Buccaneers in his lone appearance of the week. The USHL is America's only Tier I junior hockey league and continues to lead the world in the advancement of Division I college hockey athletes.

Forward - Danil Gushchin (Muskegon Lumberjacks)

Gushchin took the term "put the team on your back" to new heights on Friday as the Russian forward potted all four of his team's goals in a 4-3 overtime win against the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Lumberjacks entered the third period trailing by a goal and surrendered another, facing a 3-1 deficit with 10:18 to play in regulation. Enter Gushchin. The forward, who had already opened the game's scoring in the first period. cut the Waterloo lead in half with 84 seconds remaining and brought the home fans at Mercy Health Arena rocketing out of their seats with an equalizing tally with just five seconds remaining in the third. He wasn't done just yet. Midway through overtime, Gushchin deked between his legs and around the last Waterloo defender before slipping the game winner around the outstretched right leg of the Black Hawks netminder to send the Lumberjacks crowd home happy. His overtime goal was the #5 play on SportsCenter's Top Ten Plays Friday night.  In October, Gushchin was one of 86 players with USHL ties named to the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary List, where he was rated a B-skater. The ranking projects Gushchin as a 2nd or 3rd Round selection at the 2020 NHL Draft. This was Gushchin's fourth multi-goal game in his USHL career and marked a new high in goals (4) and points (4) in a single USHL game, topping a three-goal game (3-0-3) last season in a 5-3 win on February 23 at L.C. Walker Arena against the Madison Capitols. Gushchin's teammate Oliver MacDonald was also named USHL Forward of the Week (October 15) this season after a four-goal game.

Defenseman - Noah Ellis (Des Moines Buccaneers)

Ellis registered his first USHL goal on October 26 and followed it up with a goal in each of his games last week to open up a three-game goal streak. The University of Massachusetts defenseman notched the game-winning goal in each of the Buccaneers wins last week. On Friday, the Urbandale, Iowa native struck 11:03 into the third to seal a 3-2 win over the Madison Capitols and followed it up Saturday night with a tally on the powerplay with 4:35 to play in regulation to give his team the lead for good in a 6-4 win over the Lincoln Stars. Ellis is now on a four-game point streak (3-2-5) and has a point in five of his last six games (3-3-6) dating back to October 17. The defenseman was named a C-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary rankings last month, naming him a prospect to watch in the fourth-or-later round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Ellis is just the fifth Des Moines defenseman to record a goal in three-straight games and the first since Corey Schueneman (February 21-28, 2015). Ellis is also the first Buccaneers defenseman with a four-game point streak since Scooter Brickey did so last season (December 31, 2018 - January 10, 2019).

Goalie - Christian Stoever (Des Moines Buccaneers)

Stoever was exceptional in his lone appearance last weekend, recording a 50-save win Friday night in a 3-2 win at Buccaneer Arena over the Madison Capitols. Stoever faced an onslaught of Capitols shots, only allowing two by him to preserve the victory. The Buccaneers were outshot in all three periods (14-11, 28-9, 10-9), but Stoever came up big with save after save, including 27 in just the second period alone. Friday night marked a new USHL-career high for the Northville, Mich. native in both saves (50) and shots faced (52), besting previous highs of 33 and 37 (respectively), both registered in a 5-4 overtime win while with the Youngstown Phantoms last season. Stoever's 50-save performance marked just the ninth time in Buccaneers Tier I franchise history (dating back to the 2002-03 season) that a Des Moines netminder made 50-or-more saves. The team is 7-2-0-0 in those games.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 18th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2019-20. The USHL had 55 players selected at the 2019 NHL Draft, and more than 800 alumni are currently on NCAA Division I rosters, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
