“Partnering with College Hockey, Inc. and introducing the role of an Education Consultant provides another opportunity to put an emphasis on an aspect of our athlete’s lives we value, their education,” said USHL Commissioner and President Tom Garrity. “One of the big goals of our league is to move our players to NCAA Division I hockey, and making sure their academics are in order helps ensure that they have the best opportunity to do that.”
Sean Hogan – who serves as College Hockey, Inc.’s Director of Education – will serve as the USHL Education Consultant, working with USHL academic advisors to ensure eligibility steps are in place for any NCAA-bound players. All 16 USHL Member Clubs have their own Academic Advisor already in place that will work directly with Hogan. Hogan will also present on the benefits of the NCAA hockey route to potential future players and their parents at USHL Combines.
“College Hockey, Inc. is proud to work with the USHL to help the league’s players reach their academic goals,” said College Hockey, Inc. Executive Director Mike Snee. “We appreciate the support of the NHL and the commitment of the USHL and its member clubs to ensure their student-athletes fulfill the requirements to compete at the NCAA level and thrive in the classroom.”
Hogan’s responsibilities also including keeping the USHL current on all NCAA policies and procedures as well as working with USHL Director of Hockey Operations Evan Rand on creating league education policies and guidelines as a resource for academic advisors, student athletes and prospective student athletes and parents.
The partnership between the USHL and College Hockey, Inc. aims to make the NCAA college hockey route better, stronger and clearer by establishing a working relationship between league academic advisors and Hogan to give USHL student athletes the information they need to move on to Division I hockey.
