The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 22nd week of the 2013-14 USHL regular season.

Winners include Mason Bergh of the Chicago Steel, recognized as CCM Forward of the Week; Alec Vanko of the Chicago Steel, chosen as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Art Brey of the Sioux Falls Stampede, tabbed as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Mason Bergh, F, Chicago Steel: Skating in his first full USHL season, Bergh had a career weekend for the Steel, recording seven points (4g, 3a) to nearly double his season point total and posting a plus-five rating to help lead the team to three victories.  Friday night, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native had a career high four points (2g, 2a) in a 9-8 shootout win over Team USA’s Under-17 squad and finished the night with a game high plus-three rating.  His hot hand continued on Saturday, recording a goal and an assist in an 8-2 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks.  The 18-year-old rounded out the week with his eighth goal of the season in Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Tri-City Storm.  Bergh has 15 points (8g, 7a) over 42 games this season, with eight of those points (4g, 4a) coming in his last four games played.

Alec Vanko, D, Chicago Steel: The blueliner helped the Steel earn three wins and six points in the standings over the weekend, posting five points (1g, 4a).  He was also a big key to the Steel converting five of their seven opportunities on the power play.  He handed out a trio of assists in Friday’s 9-8 shootout win over Team USA.  The three assists established a season high for the 19-year-old.  He added another assist, and tied a game high plus-three on-ice rating, in Saturday’s 8-2 win over Muskegon.  The Oregon, Wisconsin native then potted his eighth goal of the year in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Tri-City.  Vanko is tied for 10th among USHL defensemen in scoring, totaling 21 points (8g, 13a) in 35 games this season.  His eight goals are tied for the third most for a defenseman in the League.

Art Brey, G, Sioux Falls Stampede: Having turned 20 last Thursday, Brey celebrated by posting a 1.50 goals-against average and.953 save percentage to lead the Stampede to a pair of wins and a weekend sweep of the Green Bay Gamblers.  He posted his third shutout of the season on Saturday, stopping all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 win.  Brey made 18 of his saves in the third period alone on the way to recording the sixth shutout of his USHL career.  He was strong in the net again on Sunday, blocking 31 of the 34 pucks thrown at him to earn a 5-3 win, the 35th regular season victory of his USHL career.  The Yorba Linda, California native is 4-1-0 over his last five starts, posting a 1.50 GAA and .954 SV% over those four victories which included one shutout.
