The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Mac Bennett to a two-year NHL entry-level contract, the same team that selected him in the 2009 NHL Draft.
Bennett spent the 2009-10 season in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders after the Canadiens selected him in the third round (79th overall) of the NHL Draft. He recorded 23 points (9g, 14a) and a plus-17 rating over 53 regular season games, tying for 14th among all League defensemen in scoring. Three of his goals were game-winners. The defenseman earned a spot on the USHL All-Rookie Team.
The Warwick, Rhode Island native has spent the last four seasons playing collegiate hockey at the University of Michigan where he accumulated 65 points (14g, 51a) in 136 career games at the school. He was the captain of the Wolverines this season and earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team.
