NHL Central Scouting today released their final rankings of prospects for the 2014 NHL Draft and among the players are 45 that have competed in the USHL this season.

The rankings are an overall assessment by NHL Central Scouting of draft-eligible players across all leagues and levels.

A quartet of forwards from the USHL are among the top 20 skaters in the North American rankings, including Alex Tuch of Team USA at #12, the top-rated USHL skater.  He is joined by Team USA teammates Sonny Milano (#16) and Dylan Larkin (#17).  Green Bay Gamblers forward Nick Schmaltz, who tied for seventh in League scoring, is listed at #19.

Other USHL skaters among the rankings include defenseman Josh Jacobs of the Indiana Ice (#43), one of the League’s top plus/minus players, Brandon Montour (#92) of the Waterloo Black Hawks, the top scoring defenseman in the USHL, and Matt Iacopelli (#98) of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, the leading goal-scorer in the League this season.

Five goaltenders from the USHL are also listed in the rankings of North American goaltenders, led by Kevin Reich of the Dubuque Fighting Saints at #5 and the Team USA tandem of Ed Minney (#7) and Blake Weyrick (#11).

In addition to the 45 players that have competed in the USHL this season, a total of 19 alumni of the League are among the rankings by NHL Central Scouting.  Defenseman Gavin Bayreuther, who recently completed his freshman season at St. Lawrence University, is listed at #48 among North American skaters.  He split the 2012-13 season between the Fargo Force and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and was named to the USHL All-Rookie Team.

Former USHL goaltender Thatcher Demko is the top-rated goaltender in the North American rankings.  He is getting set to compete in the NCAA Frozen Four as a freshman with Boston College.  He spent two seasons in the USHL, playing the 2012-13 season with Team USA after competing the previous season with the Omaha Lancers.

Thirteen of the 16 USHL Member Clubs that competed this season had at least one player appearing on the final rankings.  The 2014 NHL Draft is being held June 27-28 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
