The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced that forward Cullen Hurley has committed to play college hockey at the University of Wisconsin beginning next season.

“The way that Wisconsin runs their hockey program along with the style of play they offer really attracted me to the school and ultimately made my decision much easier,” said Hurley.  “Not only do they have an elite hockey program, but their academics are also first-rate.  Their coaching staff knows how to groom their players into competitors that compete for potential national championships, and I believe that they can help take my game to the next level.  I have no doubt in my mind that I can be a great fit for their program and am excited to be a Badger.”

Hurley recorded 12 points (2g, 10a) in 55 games this season for the Lumberjacks while also serving as team captain.  It was his second season in Muskegon after putting up 24 points (11g, 13a) in 63 games with the team during the 2012-13 campaign.  The Eagan, Minnesota native came to the Lumberjacks after they selected him in the 2012 USHL Draft.

He is the second member of the family in the USHL as his brother, Connor Hurley, is a member of the Green Bay Gamblers after being a teammate on the Lumberjacks last year and at the beginning of this season.

Ten other players that competed in the USHL this season are also committed to the University of Wisconsin, including Peter Tischke (Chicago Steel), Jason Ford (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Keegan Ford (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Seamus Malone (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Jake Linhart (Green Bay Gamblers), Matthew Freytag (Tri-City Storm), Jack Dougherty (Team USA), Luke Kunin (Team USA), Luke Opilka (Team USA), and Ryan Wagner (Team USA).

The University of Wisconsin is a member of the Big Ten Conference and had 15 USHL alumni on the roster this season for the Badgers; Tyler Barnes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Grant Besse (Omaha Lancers), Aidan Cavallini (Chicago Steel), Jefferson Dahl (Green Bay/Youngstown), Tim Davison (Chicago Steel), Chase Drake(Sioux City/Green Bay), Gavin Hartzog (Fargo Force), Nic Kerdiles (Team USA), Sean Little (Green Bay Gamblers), Jake McCabe (Team USA), Michael Mersch (Team USA), Keegan Meuer (Waterloo Black Hawks), Adam Miller (Chicago Steel), Matt Paape (Sioux City Musketeers), and Frankie Simonelli (Team USA).
