The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced that rookie defenseman Joseph Cecconi has committed to play college hockey at the University of Michigan following his USHL career.
“I decided to commit to the University of Michigan because I felt that it was the right fit for me, and the coaching staff made me feel right at home when I took my official visit to Ann Arbor,” said Cecconi. “I loved the campus setting that Ann Arbor had to offer, and the overall atmosphere that surrounds Michigan is one of the best in the entire country.”
Cecconi joined the Lumberjacks in December after having his rights acquired from the Green Bay Gamblers, the team that selected him in the 2013 USHL Draft. He then netted a goal in his USHL debut, a 5-3 win over the Youngstown Phantoms on December 29th. The 16-year-old from Youngstown, New York totaled six points (2g, 4a) and a plus-one rating in 28 games this season for Muskegon.
Prior to his time in the USHL, Cecconi played youth hockey for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres organization.
