Forward Mitch Hults and defenseman Cole Hults spent this season as teammates in the USHL with the Madison Capitols, and now the brothers will be future teammates at the collegiate level as they both committed to Lake Superior State University.

Mitch Hults played 55 games for the Capitols during their inaugural season and finished third on the team in scoring with 34 points (13g, 21a).  He netted the team’s first goal of the season on home ice during the 5-3 loss to Cedar Rapids on October 18th, 2014 at the Alliant Energy Center.  During one stretch, the 20-year-old put together an eight-game point streak in which he totaled 11 points (5g, 6a) over that span.

The forward previously spent two seasons in the USHL with the Indiana Ice.  After scoring five goals over 36 regular season games in 2013-14, Hults netted five goals in eight playoff games, including four goals in the Clark Cup Final to lead the Ice to the championship.  He first broke into the USHL during the 2012-13 season.  Over 119 regular season games in the League, he has produced 58 points (23g, 35a).

Cole Hults was selected by the Madison Capitols in Phase One of the 2014 USHL Draft.  The 16-year-old defenseman appeared in nine games for the team this season, dishing out two assists and posting a plus-two rating.

He spent the majority of the season playing youth hockey for the Madison Capitols U18 program where he totaled 33 points (9g, 24a) over 60 games.  The defenseman also spent last season playing in the organization.

The brothers are natives of Stoughton, Wisconsin and both products of the Madison Capitols AAA program.  Mitch also spent time with Team Illinois prior to his USHL career.

Four other players that competed in the USHL this season are committed to Lake Superior State University; C.J. Hayes (Fargo Force), Max Humitz (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Matt McArdle (Sioux City Musketeers), and Nico Blachman (Sioux Falls Stampede).

The school is a member of the WCHA and had three USHL alumni on the roster this season; James Roll (Des Moines Buccaneers), Luke Sandler (Muskegon/Des Moines/Fargo), and Kyle Chatham (Green Bay Gamblers).
