USHL Team Staff Members Promoted To Higher Levels of Hockey

The USHL has become synonymous to developing players on and off the ice for collegiate and professional hockey. Now the league is gaining notoriety for the staff it develops as well.

The United States Hockey League is proud to announce recent promotions of its member club staff members. As the only Tier 1 junior hockey league in America, the USHL has become synonymous with developing top players on and off the ice to be successful at both the collegiate and professional levels of hockey. Over this time, the USHL has also gained notoriety for the talent it develops in both the front office and behind the bench.


“It take a village,” former Lincoln Stars forward David Backes noted earlier this year. “It all goes into putting a great product on the ice and advancing players to chase their dreams.”


Below is a list of USHL staff members promoted to higher levels of professional sports this offseason, including Sean Murdoch and Steve Briere who were promoted directly to the NHL.



Dubuque Fighting Saints:

Mike Field – Associate Head Coach, Arizona State University (NCAA)

Zack Fisch – Director of Communications & Broadcasting, South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL)

Sean Murdoch – Assistant Athletic Trainer, New York Rangers (NHL)

Matt Shaw – Assistant Coach, University of North Dakota (NCAA)


Fargo Force:

Steve Briere – Goaltending Coach, Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)

Josh Hauge – Assistant Coach, Clarkson University (NCAA)


Madison Capitols:

Luke Stand – Assistant Coach, University of Wisconsin (NCAA)


Muskegon Lumberjacks:

Rich McKenna – Head Coach, New Jersey Titans (NAHL)


Sioux City Musketeers:

Matt Schmidt – Associate Head Athletic Trainer, Minnesota State University, Mankato (NCAA)


Tri-City Storm:

JB Bittner – Assistant Coach, University of Wisconsin (NCAA)

Alicia Korte – Group Sales Coordinator, Texas Stars (AHL)

Jared Shafran – Athletics Communications Associate and Voice of Ferris State Hockey (NCAA)


Waterloo Black Hawks:

Mike Falk – Sports Management Graduate School, Marquette University (NCAA)

Mariah Hinton – Ticket Sales Coordinator, Iowa Wild (AHL)


Youngstown Phantoms:

Everett Fitzhugh – Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting, Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL)

Anthony Noreen – Head Coach Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL)

John Ronan – Assistant Coach, Mercyhurst University (AHA)

Adam Waddell – Head Equipment Manager, Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL)


Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16.  A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
