The United States Hockey League and NHL Central Scouting announced that Bloomington Thunder forward Vladislav Dzhioshvili has been added to the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that will take place on January 12th in Omaha, NE at Ralston Arena. Dzhioshvili is the first player in Bloomington Thunder history to be named to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
Dzhioshvili is a rookie NHL Draft eligible forward playing in his first full USHL season after playing nine games with Bloomington last season. The Moskow, RUS native is currently in the top-20 in rookie scoring in the USHL with 10 points in 21 games. Dzhioshvili is the leading rookie scorer on Bloomington’s roster and is seventh in team scoring. Dzhioshvili ended the month of December with a three-game point streak including two goals, one of which was a game-winner.
“When [Coach Williams] told me I was going I felt really honored to be considered and picked,” Dzhioshvili said. “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the team helping me to become a better player.”
Dzhioshvili will join fellow Cornell University commit Sam Sternschein in the game. Dzhioshvili played with the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Knights (AYHL) from 2012-2015, where he scored 139 points in 72 games. He is the third forward in two years to represent the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Knights in the Top Prospects Game, joining Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick Nikita Pavlychev and Fargo Force forward Denis Smirnov.
“This season I have been watching other guys a lot to see what they do better,” Dzhioshvili said. “Once I got a couple games into the season I felt more confident playing against the older players. I have learned a lot from practice and the team has helped me focus on playing my game.”
Dzhioshvili will replace Omaha Lancers forward William Fallstrom, who will not be able to compete due to injury.
2016 marks the fourth time the USHL will be hosting the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, and it follows a record-setting 2015 NHL Draft that saw 37 players from the 2014-15 season selected by NHL teams. The 2016 NHL Draft will be held June 24-25 in Buffalo, NY at the First Niagara Center, home of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. Fans can purchase tickets to the game HERE, and any media credential requests should be sent to HERE.
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16. A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
