17 USHL Alumni Named to 2016 World Cup Preliminary Rosters

USHL alumni filled initial 16-man rosters for the World Cup on teams including the United States, North America, Europe and Czech Republic.


17 USHL graduates were named to 2016 World Cup of Hockey rosters. Preliminary 16-man rosters for the international tournament, scheduled to start Sept. 17 in Toronto, were announced throughout the day Wednesday in conjunction with the NHL. In addition to national teams participating will be Team North America, comprised of the top 23-and-under players from the United States and Canada, as well as Team Europe.


Team North America, the youngest of the World Cup rosters, and Team United States had the most USHL alumni (7) of any World Cup team. Notable alumni named to rosters include San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski (Waterloo Black Hawks), Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty (Sioux City Musketeers), Buffalo Sabres rookie Jack Eichel (Team USA), Calgary Flames Johnny Gaudreau (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Winnipeg Jets Blake Wheeler (Green Bay Gamblers) and Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson (Team USA).

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16.  A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
