USHL Sets NCAA Commit Record

New York Rangers prospect Adam Huska announced his college commitment to the University of Connecticut.


Green Bay Gamblers goaltender Adam Huska has committed to play college hockey the University of Connecticut following his USHL career. The announcement gave the USHL 380 college commits playing in the 2015-16 season, a new all-time record.


“We are proud of the continual number of NCAA Division I college commits to play in the USHL year after year,” Doug Christiansen, director of player development and recruitment said. “The USHL continues to develop college hockey’s top athletes, not just with NHL Draft picks, but with high-character players who look to lead their teams both on and off the ice.”


The Zvolen, Slovakia native is in his first full season in the USHL, and he’s taken the league by storm. He is first among all goalies with a .933 save percentage and 1.80 goals against average. He is fourth in the league with 22 wins, and has won USHL Goaltender of the Week twice this season. Huska was a 7th round pick (184th overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2015 NHL Draft.


Huska was a 2014 USHL Phase II Draft selection of Green Bay (15th round, 241st overall). Before joining the Gamblers, he spent four seasons with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia, and he also played for the Slovakian U17 and U18 teams, including two appearances in the Under-18 World Championships.


With the help of Huska, Green Bay is currently third in the Eastern Conference and has clinched a spot in the 2016 Clark Cup Playoffs.


Huska now gives the Gamblers 21 NCAA Division I commits on their roster.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16.  A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
