Aaron Westendorf was promoted to Director of Communications after two seasons with the USHL.

The United States Hockey League announced today that Aaron Westendorf has been promoted to Director of Communications effective immediately.

Westendorf recently completed his second season with the USHL and has overseen day-to-day League social media, articles, USHL photos and video, and media outreach.

“We are a developmental league that rewards performance on and off the ice,” said USHL president and commissioner Bob Fallen. “We take great pride in watching players, coaches and office staff personnel expand their skills and experience. Aaron earned the promotion through hard work, creativity and service to our member clubs and media partners.”

The 25-year-old Westendorf arrived to the USHL after spending two years as a marketing associate for the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League, including the 2013-14 season in which the Stars captured the AHL Calder Cup Championship. In addition to contributing to multiple marketing efforts for the Stars, he created and managed content for the team’s digital and social media platforms that realized significant growth over that time.

Westendorf’s previous experience also includes roles in social media, marketing, website management, writing and design. He worked for the Bethesda Foundation, a philanthropic arm of four hospitals in the Cincinnati, OH community, developing feature stories for the organization’s magazine and creating communications plans for a number of fundraising initiatives.

A 2012 graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps College of Journalism, Westendorf has worked more than 200 hockey games in his career. Earlier this season he traveled with the Chicago Steel to Russia during the IIHF Junior Club World Cup, and was tasked with directing media efforts surrounding events such as the 2015 NHL Draft, 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, 2016 USHL Draft and the USHL Player Combine events.

Westendorf is a native of Cincinnati, OH where he attended Princeton High School before moving to Athens, OH to complete his undergraduate studies. He currently resides in Chicago.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16.  A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
