USA Hockey announced in February that the 2016 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament will be held at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter Arena Frisco in suburban Dallas, Texas. It will be a return home for Southlake, TX native Jace Foskey (Tri-City Storm).
The annual tournament, which features many of the world’s best hockey players under the age of 17, will include national teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland, in addition to the United States.
Team USA won the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament last year, finishing undefeated in Arosa, Switzerland. It marked the sixth championship in eight tries for Team USA, which also claimed top honors in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2008. The 2011 championship was the last time Five Nations was played on American soil in and featured future NHL standouts Kyle Okposo (Des Moines Buccaneers/Buffalo Sabres) and Justin Faulk (Team USA/Carolina Hurricanes).
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 14th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2015-16. A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
