The Madison Capitols announced Friday that forward Marcel Godbout has committed to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Godbout, 20, joined the Capitols midway through the 2015-16 season and scored 11 goals in 31 games. Godbout also collected 16 points in 31 games with the Steel last season, totaling 22 goals on the year.  The St. Clair Shores, Michigan native scored his first goal of the season in Madison’s season opener against the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, September 23.

“It is a huge honor to commit to Sacred Heart,” explained Godbout. “I feel that the hockey program is on the rise and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”

The 5-foot-9, 183-pound forward will start his college career with the Sacred Heart Pioneers next season.

“I’m very excited for Marcel on his commitment to attend and play hockey for Sacred Heart next season,” said Capitols head coach and general manager Garrett Suter.  “He’s a good kid and is going to be a big part of our team’s success this year.  Since I’ve come in, he’s been a leader and a big voice in the locker room.  I’m looking forward to coaching him this year and watching him next season at school.”

Godbout’s commitment gives the Madison Capitols nine NCAA Division I college commits.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
