Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Marc McLaughlin has announced his college commitment to Boston College.
“I really felt Boston College is a great fit for me in all aspects,” said McLaughlin. “From development, coaching, education to it being close to home. From the second I got on campus I felt very comfortable with everything. I’m excited for the opportunity.”
The Billerica, MA native is in his first season with the RoughRiders and has skated in five career games, registering 14 shots and an even rating. McLaughlin previously played for Cushing Academy where he scored 65 career points in 66 games. McLaughlin was named to the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary List earlier this season.
Cedar Rapids selected McLaughlin in the 2015 USHL Phase I Draft in the 3rd round, 43rd overall. The RoughRiders placed McLaughlin on the affiliate list last season. According to the team, McLaughlin is scheduled to join Boston College for the 2018-19 season.
“The RoughRiders organization is very happy for Marc and his family,” said RoughRiders head coach Mark Carlson. “Many years of hard work and sacrifice go into reaching a goal like this.”
McLaughlin’s commitment gives Cedar Rapids 16 commitments, including fellow Boston College commit and former Cushing Academy teammate T.J. Walsh.
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
