Matthew Murray posted back-to-back shutouts, while Easton Brodzinski and Mario Ferraro both recorded impressive weekends.

The United States Hockey League announced the CCM Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 9 of the 2016-17 season. Matthew Murray posted back-to-back shutouts to earn USHL Goaltender of the Week honors. Easton Brodzinski won his first weekly honor after his second consecutive trick, and Mario Ferraro won his first career weekly award finishing with a goal and two assists. Both Ferraro and Murray were named to the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List last week. CCM Hockey is the official equipment provider of the USHL.



Forward: Easton Brodzinski – Madison Capitols


2 GP: 4 goals, 1 assist, +4 rating


Brodzinski scored his second straight hat trick on Friday before adding a goal and an assist on Saturday, both Capitols victories. The St. Cloud State University commit now has eight points (7G, 1A) in his last three games and is tied for third in the USHL with 10 goals. He has scored in five of the eight games he has played with Madison this season, all of which have been multi-point efforts. The Blaine, MN native was selected in the fourth round, 62nd overall by the Fargo Force in the 2016 USHL Phase II Draft. He previously played for Fargo as well as the Penticton Vees (BCHL) and Blaine High (USHS).



Defenseman: Mario Ferraro – Des Moines Buccaneers


2 GP: 1 goal, 2 assists, +1 rating


Ferraro dished out a pair of assists on Friday to help Des Moines knock off the Lincoln Stars before scoring his second goal of the season, a power play tally, on Saturday. The University of Massachusetts commit leads all Buccaneers defensemen with nine points (2G, 7A) in 15 games this season. Ferraro was named to the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List last week for the second time this season. A native of King City, ONT, Ferraro previously played for the Toronto Patriots (OJHL), Don Mills Flyers AAA (GTHL) and Toronto Marlboros (GTBHL). He was selected by the Buccaneers in the 17th round, 262nd overall in the 2015 USHL Phase II Draft.



Goaltender: Matthew Murray – Fargo Force


2-0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%


Murray recorded a pair of shutouts over the weekend to help Fargo vault into third place in the Western Conference standings. He stopped all 33 shots he faced at Omaha on Friday before turning aside all 29 shots that came his way at Waterloo on Saturday. The University of Massachusetts commit leads the league with four shutouts on the season and currently sports a 9-5-0-0 record. He was also named to the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List last week. Hailing from St. Albert, AB, Murray was undrafted in the USHL. He previously played for the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL), St. Albert Raiders (AMHL) and St. Albert Sabres (AMBHL).



Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
