The United States Hockey League announced the CCM Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 10 of the 2016-17 season. Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Andrei Svechnikov won his second weekly award of the season following a five-point weekend, while Team USA blueliner Quinn Hughes and Youngstown Phantoms goaltender Ivan Kulbakov picked up their first weekly honors this season. Hughes tallied five assists in one game, while Kulbakov backstopped the Phantoms to a pair of wins, giving up one goal against in each game. CCM Hockey is the official equipment provider of the USHL.
Forward: Andrei Svechnikov - Muskegon Lumberjacks
2 GP: 2 goals, 3 assists, +3 rating
Svechnikov scored a goal and dished out two assists on Wednesday before tallying a goal and an assist in a win over the Lincoln Stars on Saturday. He is now on a USHL-best 12-game point streak and also sports a six-game goal-scoring streak. In those 12 games, Svechnikov has recorded 21 points (10G, 11A). He is now first among rookies in scoring and is currently tied for fourth among all USHL players with 22 points (10G, 22A) in 15 games this season. The Barnal, RUS native is in his first season in the USHL. Prior to his time in Muskegon, Svechnikov played for Ak Bars Kazan in his home country. He signed a tender with the Lumberjacks prior to the 2016-17 season and previously was named USHL Forward of the Week on November 14th.
Defenseman: Quinn Hughes – Team USA
1 GP: 0 goals, 5 assists, +2 rating
In Team USA’s only game of the weekend, Hughes dished out five assists in a victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Those five helpers were tied for the most by any USHL player this season. Hughes has eight points (1G, 7A) in six games this season. He also spent last season with Team USA, tallying four goals and seven assists in 34 games, giving him 19 points (5G, 14A) in 40 career USHL games. The University of Michigan commit also set the record for most goals in a game by a defenseman with four on December 30th of last season. Hughes is a native of Orlando, FL and previously suited up for the St. Michael’s Buzzers (OJHL) and Toronto Marlboros (GTMMHL).
Goaltender: Ivan Kulbakov – Youngstown Phantoms
2-0-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .969 SV%
Kulbakov earned his first career Goaltender of the Week award after stopping 33 of 34 shots in a win at Green Bay on Wednesday before turning 30 of 31 Madison attempts away in a victory over the Capitols on Friday. The Gomel, BEL native is now 9-4-0-2 on the season. He is in his first season in the League and is second in the USHL with a 1.68 GAA. He is also tied for fifth among all goaltenders with a .930 SV%. Prior to his time in the USHL, Kulbakov played for HK Gomel (Belarus).
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
