Tri-City Storm defenseman Ronnie Attard has committed to play college hockey at Western Michigan University.

“Last summer I visited the campus and instantly fell in love,” said Attard, “I love the coaching staff and the facilities. We kept a connection until I came up to juniors. They offered a few days ago and I couldn’t turn it down.”

The White Lake, Michigan native has played in eight games since returning from injured reserve, recording a +1 rating and adding a goal.

“He really fought through to get back healthy and in shape,” said Storm head coach and general manager Bill Muckalt. “He’s been really good for us and always has a smile on his face. I think he’s got a really bright future in this game.”

Attard joins Paul Washe as the second player on the Storm roster to commit to Western Michigan. They will join a roster that includes 2016 Clark Cup MVP Wade Allison. Prior to his time in the USHL, Attard played for Victory Honda (T1EHL).

Attard is the 17th player on the Storm roster to commit to a Division 1 school.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
