January Power Rankings

01/06/2017, 3:00pm CST

The Chicago Steel retake the top spot heading into the second half of the season.

The 2016-17 USHL season is at the halfway point, and it is shaping up to be a very exciting race toward the Clark Cup Playoffs in the second half of the year. In the Eastern Conference, second through fifth place is only separated by four points, while only two points separate second through fifth place in the Western Conference. Several teams have been playing very well as of late as they try to improve their position in the standings.

January also means it is time for the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, SD, where 40 of the USHL’s top NHL Draft-eligible players will be watched by scouts from all 30 NHL teams.

The Chicago Steel have regained the top spot in the USHL power rankings following a month in which they finished 6-1-0-2 to remain atop the league standings. They also had three players (Brannon McManus, Walker Duehr, Corson Green) named to next week’s USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, along with head coach Dan Muse, who will be leading Team East.

The January Power Rankings takes a look at the USHL heading into 2017. 21 media members rank the teams 1st to 17th, and the votes are compiled into overall rankings. Power Rankings are determined on a monthly basis and run until Clark Cup Playoffs. Listed below are the teams, their record and number of first place votes in parenthesis.
