Tri-City Storm defenseman Philip Alftberg has announced his verbal commitment to St Lawrence University.
"We are excited and proud of Philip on his commitment," said Bill Muckalt, Storm head coach and general manager. "He has shown a commitment to improve every day since coming to this league."
A native of Marsta, Sweden, Alftberg, 19, is in his first season playing in North America. In 27 games he is tied for a Tri-City defensemen-best four goals and leads Storm defensemen with 15 points.
On January 6 against Des Moines, Alftberg set a career high with three assists vs Des Moines, the most helpers a Storm player has had in a game this season.
With Alftberg's commitment, the Storm have 17 players on the roster committed to a Division 1 school.
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
