The Fighting Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period thanks to two goals from Colin Theisen and a tally from Veli-Matti Tiuraniemi, but Jack Doremus scored for the Stampede with five seconds remaining in the period to make it 3-1 heading into the middle frame. Theisen picked up the hat trick, his second of the season, and team-leading 23rd goal midway through the second to give Dubuque another three-goal advantage at 4-1. Will Garin found the back of the net with just over a minute to play in the period to get Sioux Falls within two goals for the second time in the game, but Austin Rueschhoff scored the only goal of the final 20 minutes, an empty-net tally, to secure the victory for Dubuque. Zach Solow dished out two assists, his league-leading 31st and 32nd helpers of the year, and Evan Fear stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced for his third victory of the season.
