After a scoreless opening period, Bobby Hampton opened the scoring early in the middle frame to give the RoughRiders a 1-0 lead. It was the Northeastern commit's eighth goal of the season and he has now scored in three straight games. Cedar Rapids took that 1-0 advantage into the final 20 minutes, but Des Moines exploded for four goals in the span of 15 minutes to earn the victory. Recent Michigan State commit Reed Lebster tied the game four minutes into the third before Matt Jones scored the eventual game-winner just six minutes later. The Buccaneers also tacked on a tally from Mario Ferraro and an empty-netter from Lebster, his second goal of the game. Lebster (2G, 0A), Ferraro (1G, 1A) and David Keefer (0G, 2A) all registered multiple points, and Jan Ruzicka stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced for his 15th victory of the season. Des Moines is now in a tie for third place in the Western Conference standings.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
