ECHL team has signed the Omaha Lancers captain to an Amateur Tryout Offer.

Omaha Lancers captain Filip Rydstrom has joined the Indy Fuel of the ECHL on an Amateur Tryout Offer, the team announced on Saturday morning.

“We’re excited for Filip to get this chance to play at the next level,” said Lancers head coach and general manager Brian Kaufman. “This is a great opportunity for Filip to move on and continue his career. We thank Filip for everything he has done for the organization this season and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Rydstrom, 20, lead the Lancers with 34 points (10G, 24A) in 51 games with the team this season. Prior to joining the Lancers, Rydstrom spent two seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.

A native of Vallentuna, Sweden, Rydstrom is expected to be available for the Fuel when they take the ice on Sunday against the Cincinnati Cyclones. He will be the third former Lancer to make his professional debut this weekend, joining Vince Pedrie (Hartford Wolf Pack) and Jake Bischoff (Bridgeport Sound Tigers).

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17.  30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts,  and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
