The United States Hockey League and its 17 member clubs unanimously approved an extension for president and commissioner Bob Fallen prior to day two of the NHL Draft in Chicago, IL. Fallen recently completed his third season as USHL president and commissioner.
The USHL Board of Directors met in Chicago prior to the NHL Draft at the headquarters of the league office. The USHL Board of Directors announced the following:

  • The 2017 USHL Fall Classic will be held Sept. 28 – Oct. 1 in Pittsburgh, PA hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. All 17 member clubs will participate throughout the weekend. Further details will be announced at a later date.
  • Ryan Schiff, Lincoln Stars, was voted as the USHL Chairman of the Board, effective immediately. Schiff has served as the Stars director since 2013. Other officers and director positions were voted upon.
  • The territorial rights held by the Indiana Ice, have expired. The team was forced to withdraw from the league following the 2014-15 season due to issues with their facility.
  • Dan Muse, Chicago Steel head coach, was formally introduced by USA Hockey as a guest coach at the World Junior Summer Showcase. 35 USHL alumni were announced to the showcase roster earlier this week. Muse recently won the first Clark Cup championship in Chicago Steel history.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 15th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2016-17. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in four consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
