Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ben Copeland named to Team East in the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

The United States Hockey League and NHL Central Scouting announced that Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ben Copeland has been added to the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that will take place on Jan. 9 in Kearney, NE at the Viaero Center, home of the Tri-City Storm.

Copeland is currently playing his second full season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Colorado College commit scored 15 points (5G, 10A) in 56 games last season, and is now third in team scoring with 19 points (7G, 12A) in 26 games. Copeland was second in USHL scoring during the month of December with 11 points (5G, 6A) in nine games, and is currently on a four-game point streak. The Edina, MN native will be joining Black Hawks teammates Jack Drury and Jared Moe at the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Copeland will replace Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Jachym Kondelik on Team East, who will not be able to compete due to an injury sustained over the course of the World Junior A Challenge and World Junior Championship training camp with Team Czech Republic.

2018 marks the sixth time, and fourth consecutive year, that the USHL will be hosting the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. The USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game features the top NHL Draft-eligible players throughout the league in preparations for the 2018 NHL Draft. The 2018 NHL Draft will be held June 22-23 in Dallas, TX at the American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Stars.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 16th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2017-18. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in five consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
