Game 2, Western Conference Final: Fargo Force [3], Waterloo Black Hawks [2] (OT)

Series tied 1-1

After a close 2-0 defeat in Game 1, the Fargo Force rebounded in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final, knocking off the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 in overtime to even the series at one win apiece.

Just like in Game 1, the two teams skated to a scoreless opening period with Fargo outshooting Waterloo 8-6 in the frame. Much of the second period remained scoreless as well, but Fargo got on the board with just 14 seconds remaining in the frame courtesy of Griffin Loughran's second goal of the postseason, giving the Force a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

The visitors doubled their lead just under five minutes into the third period as Ben Meyers found the back of the net on the power play after a nice setup from Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup

Down 2-0 with 15 minutes to play in regulation, the Anderson Cup Champions stormed back to tie the game at two. Joey Cassetti picked the top corner to get the Black Hawks on the board and cut their deficit in half to 2-1. Waterloo then went shorthanded at the 10:30 mark of the period, and with just under 20 seconds remaining on the penalty kill, captain Jack Drury helped force a turnover along with Solag Bakich to score shorthanded, bringing the Black Hawks back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2-2.

The two teams played the remainder of regulation without another goal, sending Game 2 of the Western Conference Final to overtime.

Less than four minutes into overtime, after Fargo went on the power play following a Waterloo too many men on the ice penalty, Spencer Meier fired a shot from just outside the faceoff circles over the shoulder of Black Hawks goaltender Jared Moe and into the back of the net, giving Fargo a 3-2 victory and evening the series at 1-1.

Schmidt-Svejstrup dished out three assists in the win, giving him six total poins (2G, 4A) in the Clark Cup Playoffs, and Strauss Mann continues to be rock solid between the pipes for Fargo, as the University of Michigan commit stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced to move to 6-2 in the postseason.

Games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference Final will be played at Scheels Arena in Fargo on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
